The ranking in this photo gallery is based on an evaluation by Motel One. Based on the most popular and most visited travel destinations in Europe, the hotel chain has compiled a list of European cities that are particularly good to discover on foot.
For this purpose, it was checked in which cities the airports with the highest passenger numbers are located and where the most flights are booked. According to the Motel One hotel chain, further criteria were Google trends and major tourist magnets.
In order to subsequently find out the biggest attractions in the cities, the data and ratings from the travel portal Tripadvisor and Google were evaluated. The decisive factor in the selection was that there are at least five major attractions in each city that can be easily reached on foot within 30 minutes to one and a half hours and that can be easily connected on a tour.
This data resulted in city tours of between 2.3 and 6.7 kilometres in length. The data on walking time, distance and difference in altitude resulted in a ranking of the twenty "most walkable cities".
In our photo gallery, we present the twelve most pedestrian-friendly cities in Europe and describe the walks. You can find Motel One's entire list with all twenty European Metropolis One below.
